History and Info
Nsobe traces its origins to the Cape to Cairo railway. In 1908 the Steam Engine track was layed through what would become Nsobe Game Camp and Miengwe Farm. Cottage 200 (the ruins of which are on the farm) was built and a man called George Rankin was based there with the task of keeping the trains supplied with water and fuel. On retirement Mr Rankin was given a farm adjacent to the railway line, cut out of the forest reserve; and this plus surrounding plots now comprises Miengwe Farm and Nsobe Game Camp.
Nsobe Game Camp was started in 2001, and is part of the 1500 hectare commercial farm Miengwe Farm Ltd. Other core businesses on Miengwe Farm are are Fisheries, Beef Herd and Feedlotting, Piggery, Processing and Game Ranching.
Nsobe Game Camp and Miengwe Farm are currently undergoing a Management Buy-out, and as a reward for our people’s commitment 40% of the shares will be held by our employees once the buy-out is completed.
